Module 2Title: Early Audiological Management Description: The aim of this course module is to consider issues in relation to the effective prescription of and fitting of amplification aids for very young deaf children; this includes different approaches to hearing aid management and evaluation and relative roles in gaining the evidence to support these. Topics: This module will include: Early auditory perception; Newborn hearing screening; Auditory brainstem response audiometry; High frequency tympanometry; Otoacoustic emissions; Selection and verification of hearing aid fitting; Steady state evoked potentials; Digital amplification and very young children; Children with auditory deficits - special populations; Monitoring useof residual hearing - practical issues in hearing aid management for very young babies. Module 3Title: Working with Families and other Professionals Description: The aim of this course module is to provde an overveiw of family models and parenting styles current in the UK; to explore different models of working with the families of very young deaf children, including those refelected in Early Support (DFES) and in international initiatives. Topics: This module will include: Introduction to the family systems; legislation and national initiatives in the context of early support and education of deaf children; Attachment; Case studies - LEA models of provision for hearing impaired children 0-2 years and their families; Providing information for families of deaf children 0-2 years; Stress in families - models of adjustment to a deaf child; Multi-agency working - challenges, issues. Course Unit Workshop: Either a case study or a written assignment |
