Wizard of Oz Production 1984

Former pupil Charlotte Moulton-Thomas is trying to track down a copy of this Mary Hare School production.  She played the wicked witch and her partner, Chris Harrison, was also a member of the cast.  She thinks there may have been 3 plays in one, in this year.  If anyone has a copy she could buy/obtain, she would love to hear from you. Use the Contact Us link to get in touch.

Deaf Genealogy

Former pupil Jemima Buoy (Lambert) would like to know if there are any deaf genealogists out there, who have qualified in any of the accredited courses available, e.g. Open University, Institute of Heraldic & Genealogical Studies.  She would like to know more about doing the course and advice on working with archives etc. If you would like to get in touch with Jemima, please contact us and we will pass the message on.

Occupational Therapy Research

Former pupil Beth Simmons is currently in her second year of an Occupational Therapy degree.  She would like carry out some research for a pilot study, to find out how deaf healthcare professionals work and what support, if any, they have.  For example, she would be keen to hear how you deal with communication to patients and what kind of communication network you use where patient confidentiality is an issue.

Beth is happy to contact people directly with a questionnaire or maybe interview them herself.  If you are working or have worked in the healthcare service and would like to help, please get in touch and we will pass your details on.

Cello for Sale

Former Mary Hare pupil Beth Sewell has won a place at the 2009 Deaflympics in Taipei, taking part in the hammer event.  In 2007, Beth competed in the European deaf athletics championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, where she won a gold medal.   Last year, she competed in the world championships and finished with a well earned 5th place, throwing just 3cm short of her personal best.

Beth now has to raise £3,000 to cover the cost of participating in the competition which takes place in September  – not an easy task!  In the first instance, she is selling her old cello in order to raise the £300 deposit that she needs to pay.  She learned to play on this instrument whilst at Mary Hare School.  It is  a full size cello in a decent case, which would be good for a new learner to use.

If you know of anyone who might be interested in supporting Beth, please get in touch.
