BSA Certificate in Basic Audiometry & Tympanometry
Suitable for: GP’s, School Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Teachers of the Deaf, Educational

This course is designed for professionals in healthcare and education, who are not qualified audiologists, but who wish to carry out tympanometry and pure tone audiometry as part of their service. This course includes: anatomy and physiology, otoscopy interpretation, air and bone conduction audiometry (theory and interpretation), tympanometry (theory and interpretation), physics of sound, air conduction audiometry (practical), otoscopy (practical), tympanometry (practical). Delegates who complete the training must pass a practical assessment in otoscopy, air conduction audiometry and tympanometry in order to gain their certificate. | ||

BSA Certificate in Otoscopy and Impression Taking
Suitable for: Teachers of the Deaf, Educational Audiologists, Registered Hearing Aid Dispensers.

The day includes basic anatomy and physiology, what to look for on otoscopy and practical skills in otoscopy and impression taking to BSA standards. Delegates who complete the training will be required to pass a practical and written assessment before they obtain the certificate of practice. The practical assessment is undertaken on the day and the written assessment is taken away as homework to be completed within 4 weeks of the course. The course is 8-9 hours over one day including the practical assessment. Successful completion of this BSA Certificate qualifies practitioners to apply these skills to adults and children (aged 5 or above). A separate qualification: BSA Certificate in Otoscopy and Impression Taking (Paediatric) is necessary to enable practitioners to apply these skills to babies and children under the age of 5. Those who wish to practice on under 5s and have less than 6 months experience, will need to undertake a second day of training (14 October 2010), to gain the Paediatric Certificate. Alternatively, those with more than 6 months experience can undertake the Paediatric impression taking qualification as a stand-alone course.

Training for otoscopy and impression taking in paediatrics (to British Society of Audiology standards). The day includes considerations for impression taking, specific to paediatric work and practical sessions related to the methods used to take impressions safely in children under 5 years. Delegates who complete the training will undergo practical supervision in their own authority by a designated supervisor and a practical assessment before they obtain the certificate of practice.
Successful completion of this BSA Certificate qualifies practitioners to apply these skills to babies and children under 5 yrs. Those who wish to practice on under 5s, but have less than 6 months prior experience, will need to undertake to over 5 yrs course first (13 October 2010). Those with more than 6 months experience in impression taking can undertake this Paediatric qualification as a stand-alone course.

Training for otoscopy and impression taking (to BSA standards). The certificate qualifies
parents to take impressions on their own children (over 5 years) and at their own risk. The
2 day course includes basic anatomy and physiology, what to look for on otoscopy,
earmould requirements and practical skills in otoscopy and impression taking. Parents
will also be required to pass a practical and written assessment before they obtain the
Certificate of Practice. The practical assessment is undertaken as part of the course and the written assessment is taken away as homework to be completed within 4 weeks.
Successful completion of this BSA Certificate qualifies parents to apply these skills to their own children (5 yrs and above). A separate qualification, BSA Certificate in Otoscopy & Impression Taking (under 5 yrs) for Parents, is necessary to enable parents to apply these skills to younger children.

Successful completion of this BSA Certificate qualifies parents to apply these skills to their own children (under 5 yrs). Parents with children over 5 may wish to complete the alternative course for impression taking in older children.

BSA Certificate in Industrial Audiometry
Suitable for: those employed to carry out hearing tests on industrial employees.

Audiometry is often carried out on industrial workers and those exposed to noise. This
3 day course is intended to train audiometricians or occupational health workers who
do not hold a formal qualification in audiometry. The course includes: basic acoustics,
aetiology of hearing loss, pathology of noise induced hearing loss and tinnitus, surveillance audiometry in the field, calibration requirements, noise induced hearing loss and social handicap, personal protective equipment, report writing. Practical training will include air conduction audiometry (manual and automatic) and otoscopy. Delegates will be expected to undertake a practical assessment in audiometry and a homework written exam before gaining the certificate.
